Shurer Dhara was founded 17 years ago by Rezwana Choudhury Bannya who is an accomplished exponent of Rabindra Sangeet and a Associate Professor of the Faculty of Music and Drama Department, University of Dhaka. A distinguished alumna of Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan, the renowned Indian university founded by Rabindranath Tagore,  she was inspired  by her guru, Sreemati Kanika Bandopadhaye, a direct disciple of Tagore to continue the tradition of Santiniketan in Bangladesh. The school was modelled after Tagore’s vision on learning and child-rearing adapted to the needs of the 21st century which makes it imperative to keep the arts in education because they instill in students the habits of mind that lasts a life time.  It promotes the idea that early musical training helps develop faculty for learning language and reasoning.
